I have played pickleball for 8 years. I am 72 yo male, good health, 4.0 level. In Feb 2024, while playing on new, “gritty,” indoor surface, I planted my R foot and apparently twisted it awkwardly. It tore a ligament and caused multiple avulsion fractures. It was a routine play. The doc called it a “freak accident…bad injury.” Two weeks later I was in surgery for 3.5 hours. Joints were fused. My foot has screws and plates in it. Ten weeks later I started PT. I was diligent. Six months after injury I have started to play again, cautiously. I feel good. I like the game a lot.
So, has anyone heard of a similar injury?
Thanks, Don R
